Also Midway is running a deal on some .223 ammo, here.

Its that time of year again... RELOADING!

I have about 100 rounds of 32 grain V-max .204 done up. Working on another hundred of 40 grain V-max. I am finding that I like to reload up the boat tails much better in the .204 than the 32 grain flat base.

I started some work on the new upper/lower from Sun Devil Manufacturing. I really like the fit and finish on this AR. Orderd up a Magpul Precision Sniper stock for the build and am still wondering who I should go to for a barrel... help me discuss it here.

The secret weapons are in the works for the 2010 Prairie Dog season. What will they be?

I can tell you that the south command has been given it's orders to bring on line a second "Pretty in Blue" repeater. Details to follow. All and all the fit and finish is on par with JP.

.223 ammo going up?

Upate:  The de-mill order was recinded.

3/15/2009
The Department of Defense has issued a directive that bans the sale of military brass to ammunition re-manufacturers.

Without that brass, a very large dent is put into civilian ammunition supplies.

New Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS) requirements call for the "mutilation of shell casings". Mutilation, incidentally, is the destruction of the property "to the extent that prevents its reuse or reconstruction".

Government officials will determine what constitutes "sufficient mutilation" but it's safe to say that it will no longer be suitable for remanufacturing.

The first word of this latest decision came over the weekend when Georgia Arms' Larry Haynie released a letter notifying him of the new requirement.

For a company with an order in for 30,000 pounds of expended military brass in .223, .308 and .50 BMG, that was not a pleasant notification.

Georgia Arms was remanufacturing more than one million rounds of .223 ammunition monthly; selling that ammo on the civilian market to resellers and to government agencies all over the country.

Tomorrow, Georgia Arms will start sending cancellation notices for .223 ammunition to law enforcement agencies across the United States. Haynie says he may have to layoff half of his sixty-person workforce.

Primer Shortage?

Seems like small rifle primers, .224 bullets and powder is in general tough to get this spring.  Most manufactures are stating that they are about a year booked out for primer deliveries.

Disccuss it here.

Prairie dogs could be classified as endangered

PIERRE, S.D. – S.D. Secretary of Agriculture Bill Even told a legislative committee Jan. 4 that the state has reached out to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) concerning the possible placement of the black-tailed prairie dog on the endangered species list.

“It’s critically important for our ranchers that we manage what we consider a pest and some people would consider a pet, depending on where you live,” Even said.

Even described the prairie dog situation as one that “never goes away.”

He and the S.D. Secretary of Game, Fish and Parks, Jeffrey Vonk, recently sent the FWS a letter detailing why the black-tailed prairie dog should not be listed as threatened or endangered.

Deputy secretary of the Department of Agriculture, George Williams, said prairie dogs have been suggested for placement on the endangered species list many times in the past.

“It’s unfortunate that we’re going through this process again,” Williams said.

He said the department has documentation showing populations well in excess of what’s been indicated by the FWS.

“I think we’ve more than demonstrated that the black-tailed prairie dog does not require enlistment at this time,” Williams said.

He said population numbers in western South Dakota tell the story.

“We need to separate the emotion and the science, and I think the science will demonstrate that the black-tailed prairie dog is not a threatened species,” Williams said.
